Hey, I'm Mitch

I'm a web developer and audio engineer living in Austin, TX. Ecology and conservation are regularly at the heart of my work.

My professional focus is at the intersection of ecology and data. I am currently a conservation data scientist at the UT Insect Collections, working on a Texas Parks and Wildlife grant to provide preliminary conservation rankings for Texas' 30,000+ invertebrate species. Check out the project here as I continue its development. Alongside this project, I am working with researchers at UNT and abroad to develop methods for cleaning the often-difficult occurrence data that fuel projects like this.

This website you're currently on is built on a Flask backend and doesn't use any additional frontend framework (although my various projects linked here use frameworks like React and Svelte). While I very much enjoy working in these frameworks, I also enjoy keeping my website intentionally simple—there's a certain charm to it.

I'm always trying to learn new ways to serve the natural world around me. If you have any ideas or if you'd just like to chat, send me a message.
